We are pleased to announce that Joshua F. Conway (B.S., University of Minnesota) has joined City Square Associates, Inc. as Research Manager. In this position Josh will have the lead role in field and data management for qualitative research, oversee our overall project calendar, and supervise our suppliers and subcontractors.
Josh comes to us from Bookspan / Zooba, a leading direct marketing company specializing in content-rich e-mail campaigns to build customer relationships and increase brand awareness. He began there as a Marketing Analyst, a position which had him managing, analyzing, and reporting on consumer research—among other things. He eventually moved into the role of Business Development Manager, overseeing the production of more than forty weekly subscription-based e-mail campaigns for eleven North American book clubs.
Prior to his time at Zooba , he was a Customer Service Manager for Ford Motor Company in Detroit where—as we understand it—he raised a few eyebrows by driving his motorcycle (rather than his Lincoln) to work each day. He earned in B.S. in Marketing at the Carlson School of Management in Minneapolis, where he graduated with distinction.
“We found Josh after an extensive search,” says Chris Schiavone, President and Founder of City Square. “It was important to find someone who had superior project management skills, good analytic instincts, an appreciation for the unique mission of City Square, and a personality that would blend well with those of our team members and our valued clients. I’m confident we found all that in Josh, and more.”
He resides in Cambridge, MA where his hobbies include kung fu, gardening, and bicycling.
August 21 will be the last day for Mandi Logan our Research Manager here at City Square Associates. In September, Mandi begins nursing school at the University of Massachusetts in Boston, attending to a long-standing interest in health care and helping people.
Mandi joined our firm in November 2000 as an Administrative Associate. She quickly advanced to the position of Research Associate and then, one year ago today, Research Manager. In her role she has been “the keeper of the calendar”— matching the needs of our clients with the availability of our consultant staff. She has also done a superior job of managing the facilities we use for qualitative work—making sure that recruiting is accurate and timely and making sure our clients know how to get where they’re going and are well-fed once they get there!
We will definitely miss Mandi but are thrilled to see her taking such a positive step in her own career development.
We plan to have a new City Square associate to introduce to you early in September. Meanwhile, count on Karen, KJ, and Chris to pick up the slack and make the transition as seamless as possible!
City Square Associates, Inc., announces that KJ Ward is joining its Boston-based marketing research and consulting practice. In his position as Senior Consultant, Ward will lead the firm in evolving and delivering new products and services to assist both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations in staff development, organizational planning, and performance assessment. He will also contribute to the firm’s current market research practice as an interviewer, focus group moderator, and analyst.
Chris Schiavone of Charlestown, President and Founder of City Square, is enthusiastic about this addition to the staff. “KJ’s background in psychology and human development and his hands-on experience as a program director in the non-profit sector make him an outstanding addition to our team. Ever since establishing City Square in 1997, I have wanted to diversify our professional staff as well as our product offerings. KJ’s arrival represents an important step in that process.”
Before coming to City Square, KJ served for several years as the Director of Boston GLASS Community Center (JRI Health), a comprehensive supportive services program for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning adolescents. In his role, he excelled at program design, staff development, community outreach and public relations. Previous roles, both as Assistant Director of Harvard University’s Native American Program and Consultant to the Massachusetts Department of Education, gave him extensive experience in programming and management where a deep understanding of culture and society was required. Says KJ: “I’m excited to bring my skills to a company that values organizational and cultural competence on all levels. A research and consulting practice with a commitment to understanding the whole picture is an asset to its clients.”
Ward earned an M.Ed. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University and a B.A. in Psychology from Dartmouth College. He resides in Cambridge MA with his partner Randy Akee, who is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Economy and Government at Harvard University.
