WHAT's NEW: 2006

Our Newest Associate

POSTED: JULY 7, 2006

On Tuesday, July 11, Erich Wiernasz begins as Research and Administrative Assistant here at City Square Associates.

Erich's hire was the outcome of a six week search that attracted over one hundred applicants. With a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology, Erich is new to the field of Marketing Research, but Erich sees both disciplines as highly related. In his own words: “The two overlap in that Anthropology studies the social patterns intrinsic to culture, and Market Research studies those same patterns translated into commerce and culture.”

Says, CSA Founder Chris Schiavone, "Given the increasing importance of ethnography—which I think of as the observation and analysis of human behavior and attitudes in a real-world context—I couldn't be happier to have Erich's perspective represented on our team!"

In his role at City Square, Erich will be primarily in charge of data management, client and vendor relations, as well as calendar and project coordination. In addition, Erich will share responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the practice and begin apprenticing in the methods and management of marketing research. The members of CSA's adjunct team—Caroline Tingley, Karen Barone, and Anne Hooper—continue to round out our practice with their formidable facilitation and analytic skills.

Erich studied at the University of Connecticut (Storrs), considered to be New England’s top public university. He also spent time in London at Goldsmith's College and worked as a Research Assistant for American Friends Service Committee, a non-profit organization committed to the principles of nonviolence and justice.

If it's May, it must be time for . . . graduation!

City Square Associates is pleased to announce that our adjunct Research Manager Caroline Tingley just received her Masters in Business Administration from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Management at Babson College. The ceremony was May 20 on Babson's beautiful campus in Wellesley, Massachusetts. (For the 13th consecutive year, US News ranked Babson's MBA program #1 Business School for Entrepreneurship with Stanford ranking #2 and UPenn's Wharton ranking #3.) Caroline's areas of concentration was-not surprisingly-marketing. This is Caroline's second advanced degree, as she holds the MS in non-profit business from Boston University.

Caroline joined our practice in the role of Research Manager in Fall 2004. Caroline came to City Square from the National Leisure Group (NLG), where she designed and managed a comprehensive program to track customer experience and behavior-ultimately for the purpose of raising the level of customer satisfaction and loyalty. At City Square, she managed a wide and varied portfolio of projects-both qualitative and online/quantitative. She also spearheaded CSA's Fall 2005 business development initiative. She joined Anne Hooper and Karen Barone as an Adjunct Consultant in January 2006, and we're proud to have her continue as part of our team.

Sad to See Josh Go

POSTED: MARCH 1, 2006

We’re proud—and a little sad—to announce that Research Manager Josh Conway will be leaving City Square Associates to become an Associate Project Director at Cogent Research, neighbors of ours here in Cambridge. The new position will give Josh the opportunity to continue building his research portfolio through engagement with different methodologies and market categories. His first day is Monday, March 20; please join us in wishing him well.

Josh joined City Square in September 2003 and distinguished himself as a skilled project manager and thoughtful analyst. He handled the logistics for some of the most challenging, large qualitative projects that we’ve undertaken—and did so with a combination of professionalism and dry wit that the rest of the Team and I grew to admire. In the past year, Josh stepped up to the plate as interim Business Manager while I was out on sabbatical and also had his first foray into the world of focus group moderating. He excelled at both and demonstrated true versatility.

I hope to add a new project manager to our team this Spring, but in the interim, I’m glad to have the able assistance of Caroline Tingley, Karen Barone, and Anne Hooper on an adjunct basis. In the meantime, I want to wish you well in your endeavors. Don’t hesitate to contact me directly if you foresee an opportunity to collaborate.
