Christopher Schiavone (Ph.D., Philosophy, Georgetown) is Founder and Principal of City Square Associates. In that role he has designed research for and provided creative and strategic advice to a wide range of clients in both the private and public sector including the networks of NBC Universal, Nickelodeon, Capital One Financial, and several agencies and departments of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He has studied consumer behavior and attitudes in nearly every major American market from coast to coast and he has designed and implemented strategic planning and communication processes to bring the evidence of consumer research to bear in business planning.
Chris has developed particular competencies in media and entertainment, product branding, consumer credit, corporate culture, the application of research methodology in the public policy arena and most recently in public media. Since 2003, he has been providing leadership and advice in public television's effort to develop a strategic approach to primetime programming and improving the accessibility of its content in the new media environment. He has designed and fielded both qualitative and quantitative research for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting [CPB], the Public Broadcasting Service [PBS], WGBH-Boston, and McNeil-Lehrer Productions.
Prior to founding City Square, Chris was senior research analyst and director of business excellence at The Taylor Group of Portsmouth (NH). While leading Taylor's media practice, he developed the concept of “Regional Temperaments” to help a national media company refine their promotion strategy to optimize program performance in underperforming markets. He also launched that firm's occasional journal of business and philosophy called Techne, and he conducted that firm's first-ever internal audit of its major ongoing customer satisfaction study for a major B2B telecommunications company. He is also a past instructor in business ethics and media studies at Stonehill College in North Easton, MA, and past assistant professor of philosophy at St. John's Seminary in Brighton (MA).
Chris is a Co-founder of Boston Chefs, Inc., an Internet-based cross-media marketing platform for chefs and restaurateurs, where he currently serves as Director of Marketing and Finance. He is a past member and chairman, of the WGBH-Boston Community Advisory Board and has been involved in a variety of other community and philanthropic efforts including the organization and hosting of an annual benefit in support of local community based organizations called “Flavors of Fall.”
He is an avid gardener and enjoys long hikes with his faithful canine friend Oualie.
